After extensive research and analysis of the horror genre as well as how color can have an impact on human psychology, I wanted to explore the utilization of color and horror surrealism to encapsulate different emotions and mental states.

For example: many fast food chains use the color red for their brand, as red can stimulate your appetite and therefore makes you more likely to stop and eat.

 

Our subconscious interpretations of specific colors lends to each piece in this series:

• ​Dark Water:

  • ​Deep greens and dark blues represent the feeling of drowning and isolation. The head in the fishbowl being the same as the monster containing it illustrates confinement and deepens the isolation impact. 

• Masked: 

  • ​Reds symbolize the intense inner battle and frustration that can occur when internally struggling with who you are. The physical mask represents how we mask to the people around us, hiding struggle in fear. Grotesque makeup beneath illustrates the how gory the internal struggle can be. - also part of my "the clown" series​
